The paper highlights how former Psychiatric Hospitals represent a heritage of the memory of asylum but also of the battle for the deinstitutionalisation of psychiatric care in Italy, became an international model. The proposal is to connect memory with the current mental health narration. An unpublished text will be explored in which Franco Basaglia discusses with Venetian architects, Iuav professors, the possible future reuses of the Trieste Psychiatric Hospital after its closure.
