LA RAPPRESENTAZIONE DELL’APPENNINO IMOLESE E FAENTINO NELLA CARTA FLAMINIA (GALLERIA DELLE CARTE GEOGRAFICHE IN VATICANO) THE REPRESENTATION OF IMOLA AND FAENZA APENNINE IN THE FLAMINIA MAP (GALLERY OF MAPS IN THE VATICAN)
The Gallery of Maps in the Vatican, worked out by E. Danti in 1580-1582, has become through
the years the subject of many geographical essays: the latest is the exemplary volume edited by L.
Gambi and A. Pinelli. This paper analyses, in the Flaminia map belonging to this pictorical-cartographical
cycle, the representation of Imola and Faenza Apennine (Emilia-Romagna Region),
studying in particular the toponymy, the road network and the different depiction of local geological
Formations.
Abstract
La Galleria delle Carte geografiche in Vaticano, realizzata da E. Danti tra il 1580 ed il 1582, è stata
oggetto nel corso del tempo di numerosi ed approfonditi studi: basti pensare da ultimo alla monumentale
edizione a cura di L. Gambi e A. Pinelli. Il presente contributo intende analizzare, all’interno
della Carta Flaminia appartenente a tale ciclo pittorico-cartografico, la rappresentazione dell’Appennino
imolese e faentino, prendendo in considerazione in modo particolare la toponomastica,
la viabilità e la diversa resa di alcune emergenze geologiche di questo settore appenninico.
