The contribution illustrates the fortune that the Platonic dialogue “Gorgias” had in the Renaissance period, particularly in the 16th century. Remarkable traces of the dialogue are found in the writings of Sperone Speroni (they have already been highlighted by Teodoro Katinis), and also in the writings of Cardinal Agostino Valier. He gave an interpretation of the dialogue in the direction already indicated by Marsilio Ficino. Valier’s interpretation of the dialogue is contained in the Ambrosian manuscript D 447 inf. These are notes that a pupil of Valier drew from the lessons of his teacher. A partial edition is provided in the appendix.
