L’articolo contiene una sintesi dei principali risultati delle indagini condotte alle Grandi Terme dall’Università di Udine, in collaborazione con la Soprintendenza, il Museo Archeologico e con la Fondazione Aquileia. In particolare, vengono illustrati i nuovi dati acquisiti, soprattutto in questi ultimi tre anni, sui limiti, sulle tecniche di costruzione dei muri e delle fondazioni dell’edificio e sulle tre fasi strutturali della zona nord-orientale delle terme. Si propone anche di attribuire all’angolo sud-est delle Grandi Terme un mosaico a grandi tessere rinvenuto nel 1967, durante gli scavi per le fognature moderne e noto da foto d’archivio.
This paper contains a synthesis of the main results of the archaeological investigations conducted at the Great Baths by the University of Udine, in collaboration with the Superintendency, the Archaeological Museum and the ‘Fondazione Aquileia’. It illustrates especially the results acquired in the last three years, about the limits, the construction techniques of walls and foundations and about the three structural phases of the northeastern area of the Late Roman building. It is also proposed to attribute to the southeastern corner of the Great Baths a mosaic with large tesserae discovered in 1967, during excavations for the modern sewers and known from archive photos.
