The conspicuous collection of ancient weapons of Ferdinando Rosset is the fruit of his great passion as a collector but also as a scholar. The will of Rosset, as reflected in his purchases, was to have the greatest number of different weapons from the point of view of typology, chronology and geographical area of origin, probably in order to study the processes of technological innovation, the aesthetic changes of the decorative apparatuses over the centuries, or again, to evaluate their peculiarities based on the production center from which they came. This catalog is therefore structured trying to interpret what must have been the themes of primary interest of Ferdinando Rosset. In the first part of the volume, the collection was divided between firearms and swords, selecting the most important and representative pieces.
