I processi storici di costruzione del territorio hanno lasciato giacimenti ed eredità di lunga durata, Capaci di evidenziare relazioni virtuose fra società insediate ed ambiente naturale. Tali giacimenti costituiscono un patrimonio sui quale deve fondarsi la pianificazione urbanistica nell'interpretazione, prima e nella progettazione poi, dei futuri assetti della città e del territorio. Con questo orizzonte l'articolo descrive due casi di pianificazione in cui lo studio degli elementi costituenti il patrimonio territoriale si è avvalso di un processo di costruzione di cartografie specifiche ad esso dedicate. Descrive le problematiche affrontate nell'elaborazione di tali cartografie, i dati e le fonti utilizzate, i metodi e gli obbiettivi che gli autori si sono posti durante l'elaborazione, termina poi con alcune considerazioni critiche sui risultati e sull'uso che di tali cartografie è stato fatto. The historical processes of territorial shaping left long lasting values, highlighting virtuous relationship between settled society and natural environment. This values form an heritage which must be the foundation of urban planning interpreting and designing the future of town and territory. With regard to this background the article describes two experiences of territorial planning, where the process of constructing specific cartographies supports the inquiry about the elements that constitute the territorial heritage. The article describes the problems of mapping, the data and sources used, the methodology and the goals that the authors chose during the work. The article ends with some critical considerations about the results and about the use of this maps and studies.
