In Friuli, the wide variety of natural building materials present in a substantially limited area, including limestones, sandstones, marls and clays, points to the possibility of an ecomuseum that would make permit direct knowledge of materials and techniques by taking advantage of the proximity of the sites and the diversity of materials. The example of the “Marble Roads” in Lombardy, Liguria and Tuscany inspires a proposal of a “Road of Stones and Earth” that would cross the foothills of Friuli, along a “cultural map” of building materials. The aim of the proposed ecomuseum would be to integrate, as regards the use of building materials and traditional production techniques, some of the features that have already been established in local museums, creating a reference and tracing a memory that weaves its way through woods and villages, houses and roads.
