The reception of Schiller's work in Italy has been discontinuous: from the admiration for his historical dramas during the Risorgimento, to the limiting judgement of Benedetto Croce at the beginning of the 20th Century, which has essentially been confirmed by Ladislao Mittner in his "Storia della letteratura tedesca", one of the fundamental works for the knowledge of German culture in Italy. The author provides an overview of the scientific initiatives that took place in Italy in 2005, on the occasion of the second centenary of Schiller's death.
