Abstract
The aim of the present investigation was to provide information on the n-alkane (C27-C35) content of several Gramineae and Leguminosae forages and their variability due to genetic and agronomic factors. The total n-alkane content varied significantly between species, but in all cases C29 and C31 had the highest concentrations. The effect of vegetative cycle on hydrocarbon content was not systematic, but significant differences were found for some n-alkanes in some species.
