Causation Theories and Causation Rules

INFANTINO, MARTA

Abstract
The present entry aims to offer a comparative analysis of the ways in which Western tort law systems address the many questions falling under the umbrella of causation. To this purpose, the paper first investigates the role that causation plays in the broader, trans-legal scientific debate over the chains of events that make up any social phenomenon. It then overviews the theories and rules embodying the Western response to causation problems in tort law, and examines who, in the West, actually make these theories and rules, against what cultural backgrounds, and through which technicalities.
