The article introduces the issue topic, i.e. the movement of cultural objects within the EU. This topic has been recently object of relevant innovations with the enactment of EU Directive 2014/60/EU. The issue focuses on the implementation of this Directive in the EU Member States (which was due on December 2015), with a comparison between the rules of the previous regime on the topic, Directive 1993/7/EEC, and the new ones, and with some critical considerations on nature and function of the art market, and the legal transplants between international law, EU law and the national legal systems.
