A long term research plan is currently run at University of Trieste on Ship Safety and Stability. The research is principally aimed at improving our knowledge of large amplitude ship motions with particular regard to rolling motion and to the effect of sloshing of water on board both in the intact ship and in the damaged ship conditions. In this paper some results, connected with the effect on motions of liquids with free surface present on board are briefly presented together with the indication of future developments.
