Questa relazione cerca di proporre una revisione della relazione fra mythos e logos nell’opera di Platone, dal complesso uso di queste due parole nel preambolo del Timeo, del prologo del nono libro della Politeia e della pseudo-digressione del Politicus sul bisogno di un cambiamento di metodo. L’analisi di questi passaggi rivela che il mythos, lontano dall’opporsi al logos come un discorso radicalmente incompatibile, o anche lontano dall’essere la matrice che deve scappare dal logos, appare come un tipo di logos specializzato nella rappresentazione di una realtà che è immaginaria e invisibile. Parlando della phantasia per l’intelletto, il mythos aiuta ad avvicinarsi alla verità, e anche a correggere gli errori nella logica. La presentazione del mito di Atlante –il più orribile mito della mitologia classica- e del mito di Crono mostra pienamente la doppia postulazione del discorso mitico, alle volte orientato al racconto, altre alla realtà oggetiva. This paper aims to propose a review of the relationship between mythos and logos in the work of Plato, from the complex use of those two words in the preamble to the Timaeus, the prologue of book 9 of the Politeia and the pseudo-digression of the Politicus on the need for a change of method. The analysis of these passages reveals that mythos, far from opposing the logos as a radically incompatible discourse, or even far from being the matrix which must escape the logos, appears as a kind of logos specializing in the representation of a reality which is imaginary and invisible. Speech of phantasia for the intellect, the myhos helps get closer to the truth, even to correct errors in logic. The presentation of the Atlantis myth - the most horrible myth of classical mythology - and of the myth of Cronos shows fully the double postulation of mythical discourse, sometimes turned to fiction, sometimes as if to objective reality.
