The examples, whether they are invented, adapted, extracted from textual corpora or
from the literary field, constitute essential elements in the lexicographical article not only because they are a model of linguistic use and help the user in their decoding and encodingtasks, but also because they reveal the culture and ideology in which the words are inscribed.
This paper reflects on the exemplification system in current monolingual lexicography and analyzes the ideological-sexist traits contained in the examples that illustrate some lemmas (and meanings) extracted from five monolingual Spanish dictionaries.
