In this article, I reply to my interlocutors’ questions concerning Le matérialisme politique de Louis Althusser. I address the debate about the continuity or discontinuity of Althusser’s path by clarifying the ontological status of modes of production. I then situate the main figures of communism in Althusser’s work with regards to the distinction between transition and revolution. Finally, I question whether the Althusserian attempt to revive historical materialism can contribute to a communist strategy without resorting to the construction of a new historical myth.
