Abstract
The sustainability of the urban transport is commonly recognized as a crucial objective. In this paper we define the concept of sustainable mobility firstly and then we describe some indicators that allow to measure it. The objective of our search is to understand as the sustainability of the urban transport is changed. In order to explore that, we use the Multiple Factor Analysis MFA. This method is applied to tables in which a set of individuals is described by a set of variables and the variables are organized into groups. We have applied the MFA to the selected indicators for 100 Italian cities in two different periods, 2001 and 2011, the years of the last two Italian Census. The MFA analysis allows to identify two main dimensions that describe over time more than 50% of the variability of sustainability of transports in Italian cities, the mobility by public transport and the mobility by private transport.
