Nominalism is the doctrine that there are no abstract objects. Numbers, sets and other mathematical objects are usually regarded as paradigmatic cases of abstract objects. Nominalists, then, should provide an account of the value of mathematics which is compatible with their rejection of the objects mathematics seems to be about. Il Nominalismo è la tesi che non esistono entità astratte. Numeri, insiemi ed altri oggetti matematici sono solitamente considerati casi esemplari di entità astratte. Per i nominalisti si pone quindi il problema di chiarire in cosa consista il valore della matematica una volta ammesso che gli oggetti di cui la matematica sembra trattare non esistono.
