Le Grandi terme costantiniane di Aquileia, per la loro funzione e per la loro grande estensione, richiedevano imponenti impianti per l’approvvigionamento e lo stoccaggio dell’acqua e una capillare rete di adduzione, distribuzione e smaltimento, indispensabili per l’alimentazione di vasche, piscine e fontane.
Le sistematiche spoliazioni dell’edificio hanno eliminato per sempre le tubazioni e gli alloggiamenti negli elevati. Tuttavia, proprio le trincee di spoliazione, con l’aiuto del confronto con le meglio conservate Terme di Caracalla a Roma, ci permettono di ricostruire il sistema degli impianti idraulici dell’edificio pubblico aquileiese. Le indagini più recenti ci aiutano a interpretare le foto dei vecchi scavi del ‘900, quasi completamente privi di documentazione, e stanno restituendo un interessantissimo ambiente con grandi vasche e fontane nel settore nord-est dell’edificio di età costantiniana / Water adduction and distribution in the ‘Great Baths’ of Aquileia: data from excavations.The Constantinian Great Baths of Aquileia, for their function and extent, required an impressive hydraulic system (for supply, storage, distribution and disposal of water), indispensable for supplying pools and fountains. In Middle and Modern Ages, the systematic plundering of the Baths has forever eliminated pipes and ducts under the floors and in the walls. However, the despoliation trenches allow us to reconstruct the hydraulic system of this thermal building, with the help of the comparison with the best-preserved Baths of Caracalla in Rome. The most recent archaeological investigations help us to interpret the photos of the 20th-century excavations, almost completely devoid of records, and are bringing to light a very interesting room with large basins and fountains in the northeastern part of the Constantinian thermae.
