Chi erano i proprietari delle ricche domus aquileiesi? Piste epigrafiche

Abstract
Until now we are not able to connect any of the many houses excavated in Aquileia with the prominent figures whose names are preserved on commemorative inscriptions. There are no pavement inscriptions, like that one discovered at Iulium Carnicum, which allegedly hands down the fragmentary name of the landlord. The only epigraphic mention of a domus is in the abstract of the will of a well-to-do person, carved on his funerary monument. Some tantalizing clues to the identification of some owners can be suggested: private stamps on lead pipes, probably related to rich houses; pedestals erected most likely in a home environment for knights or senators by clientes and amici or commemorative monuments raised in private context by high magistrates. But all these inscribed objects anc stones, mostly scattered for reuse in late Roman or Medieval ages, were not found in situ and the location of all these prestigious houses, where the wealthiness and the status of the landords was displayed to all the visitors, stays unknown.
