The dynamic stability of a towed barge is strictly connected to the stern and skeg shape, which increase the towing resistance very much. In our paper we shall analyze the effects induced by some recently used skegs and examine the connection between the parameters depending upon the towing resistance and the dynamic stability; moreover our investigation shall examine some unusual stern shapes. New stern shapes and skegs, more responding to the requirements of the barge dynamic stability, can be chosen carefully when consulting our information.
