In this work we present and discuss the use of the Supercritical Fluid Chromatography technique for determining thermodynamic properties. Partial molar volumes of alcohols, at infinite dilution in CO2 are obtained from the variation of retention properties with the density of mobile phase. The expression related to the partial molar volumes at infinite dilution and retention properties, that is strictly true only at solvent critical point, has been shown to be valid also in conditions far from the critical point.
