Questo saggio sostiene che il pensiero di Robert Spaemann ruota intorno all’esigenza
di spiegare la possibilità di consentire razionalmente al comando politico e di legittimare
l’autorità politica, riaffermando così il diritto naturale classico di Platone e
Aristotele. Spaemann compie il suo percorso in dialogo con le figure chiave della modernità
per cercare di superare i problemi a loro posti dal disincanto del mondo operato
dalla scienza moderna. Il saggio argomenta che Spaemann ha cercato di superare
la dialettica della modernità senza rinunciare al valore conoscitivo della scienza, ma
sostenendo invece che l’approccio alla realtà oggettivante e dominante della scienza
non è esclusivo e che l’uomo può guardare alla realtà anche con benevolenza. Solo
allora la realtà mostrerà all’uomo la sua reale curvatura verso il bene.
This essay claims that the thought of Robert Spaemann turns around the need to
explain the possibility of rational consent to political authority and the possibility of
legitimizing political authority. In this way, he intends to reaffirm the classical natural
law of Plato and Aristotle. Spaemann spells out his position through a dialog with
the main figures of modernity in order to overcome the problems that they had to
face, due to the disenchantment of the world operated by modern science. The essay
argues that Spaemann attempted to overcome the dialectics of modernity without
questioning the epistemic value of modern science. He rather suggested that the objectifying
and dominating approach to reality of modern science is not exclusive: man
can also look at reality with benevolence. Only in that case, will reality manifest its
real curvature towards the good.
