An update on devotion in Cisalpine Gaul in Late Antiquity must include an overview
on the different religious expressions spread around in the area: the imperial religion
that refers to monarchist or hierarchical principles, some forms of oriental religions
randomly distributed on the territory, and politeism, which was well-established in the
countryside and resisting the bishops’ attempt to uproot it. These are the main topics
covered in this paper.
