Le attività laboratoriali svolte durante la manifestazione “La matematica dei ragazzi” possono essere raggruppate, in generale, in due grandi blocchi: la finalità principale del primo di essi è la motivazione verso lo studio della matematica, quella del secondo è la didattica. Il contributo invita a riflettere su ciascuna di queste due tendenze. Si afferma che per motivare i ragazzi sarebbe auspicabile aiutarli ad assumere un atteggiamento critico verso la matematica, offrendo, ad esempio, degli elementi che li stimolino a riflettere sullo sviluppo storico delle idee matematiche. A proposito della didattica, si fornisce un esempio nel quale si mostra l’importanza di associare spiegazioni teoriche e attività pratiche per migliorare la comprensione e l’apprendimento dei concetti matematici. Infine, si evidenziano le opportunità che la manifestazione “La matematica dei ragazzi” offre non solo per avvicinare i ragazzi alla matematica, ma anche per svolgere ricerche interessanti, con i partecipanti come soggetto di studio. The workshop activities, which took place during the meeting "La matematica dei ragazzi", may be generally divided into two large groups. The aim of the first one is to stimulate students’ interest in the study of mathematics, whereas the aim of the second is to deal with teaching issues. The contribution invites reflection on each of these areas. We maintain that young people need to be helped to develop a critical approach to mathematics in order to be motivated. They can, for example, be given suggestions which encourage them to reflect on the historical development of mathematical ideas. As far as teaching issues are concerned, an example is given to show how the importance of associating theoretical explanations and practical activities improves understanding and learning of mathematical notions. Finally, the opportunities given by "La matematica dei ragazzi" are highlighted, not just as a means of attracting young people to mathematics but also of carrying out interesting research, with the participants as object of study.
