Dagli anni Duemila, l’artista russa contemporanea Viktorija Lomasko documenta i processi, le proteste, gli arresti, le violazioni dei diritti nel suo paese e nello spazio post-sovietico. Le sue illustrazioni e opere grafiche vengono inserite in questo articolo nel filone dell’‘arte di testimonianza’ che ha avuto grande successo nel Novecento sulla scia delle tragedie che hanno caratterizzato questo secolo. Venendo meno ai criteri di sequenzialità tipici del fumetto, le illustrazioni di Lomasko costituiscono una galleria di “ritratti di testimonianza” (portrety svidetel’stva) che invitano il fruitore a prendere parte a un processo di denuncia rispetto a realtà scomode e spesso silenziate della realtà russa e non solo. Since the 2000s, the contemporary Russian artist Victoria Lomasko has documented trials, protests, arrests, and rights violations in her country and in the post-Soviet space. In this article, her illustrations and graphic works are analyzed through the prism of the ‘witness art’ that emerged in the wake of the human tragedies in the last century. Lomasko’s illustrations do not conform to the criteria of sequentiality typical of comic strips, but rather constitute a gallery of “portraits of witness” (portrety svidetel’stva) that invite the viewer to take part in a process of denunciation of uncomfortable and often silenced social contexts in Russia and beyond.
