Found in a place called Čentur between 1934 and 1962, one or more hoards were hidden along the edge of a plateau (Mali Čentur) not far from Via Annia, a route from Aquileia to Istria. The vicissitude of the discovery has many dark sides and inconsistencies, probably destined to remain unresolved for lack of contemporaneous documentation and because the circumstances of the discovery were passed down mostly orally. After having outlined the history of the discovery, the paper aims to determine how many coins are now available and how many are irretrievably lost, to examine the relation between folles, the role of coinage of Magnentius and the contribution of the various mints, in primis Aquileia. The cause of the hide can be attributed more to a tax levy – made probably in the coastal towns of Trieste, Pola, Parenzo or in villages of Istria – rather than an act of war for which there is no trace in the sources and in the archaeological finds in situ.
