Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a widespread disease
all over the world, its annual incidence being estimated
between 0.25 and 1 million new cases per year [ 11.
HCC is a sex-linked disease, with a significantly higher
frequency in males [2]. The figure observed in each geographical
region is different, and depends mainly on the
basis of collection of the data (hospital, population, autopsy
register, etc.). However, when dealing with large
numbers and/or with a rather frequent disease, such as
liver carcinoma, the bias related to the above-mentioned
factors may be minimized.
