Abstract
Different studies have assessed that statin therapy reduce the low density lipoprotein levels. Consequently the efficacy of this therapy, on terms of reduction of mortality for cerebro-cardiovascular events, has been checked by different studies. This analysis considers a cohort of 8229 patients affected by type 2 diabetes, observed in the period 2004-2008, resident in the region Friuli Venezia-Giulia and in charge of 107 general practitioners. Application of generalized mixed linear models allowed both to analyse the care profiles adopted by the general practitioners on the cohort of diabetic patients and the effectiveness of the statin therapy. A significant heterogeneity of adopted care profiles has been pointed out together with a positive correlation between the number of glycemic level controls, at patient level, and the persistence of statin therapy adopted. Finally we verified, using a logistic model, the efficacy of therapy in terms of reduced death’s probability among cohort patients.
