In a general sense, the ancient Mediterranean recalls the principle of human dignity, highlighting the resilience of a heritage which is cultural but mostly social. The book, an empirical publishing, focuses on the memory of dialogue and the relations of interdependence that affect the Mediterranean, configuring the fluctuation of dialogue construction according to a perspective rooted in the social heritage. It attempts to identify the main conceptual strands of Mediterranean-ness, a concept that may be empirically utilisable if it is understood as an investment in the social heritage, with the prospect of benefiting from it. Based on an event, the multilateral institutional experience, and on individuals who in their own daily lives experience the mitigation or intensification of the contrasts in the area, this book explores the prospects of Euro-Mediterranean socio-cultural integration. It highlights areas of major opportunities and those of major tension - the light and shadow of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation - which emerge from the analysis of the social, cultural and human issues and exchanges between civil societies embodied by the Barcelona process, and the representation of the Mediterranean founded on the consideration that dialogue is bound up with people's everyday lives, offering their own ideas and perceptions of a multi-form reality. The work is presented as a desk research, making use of available documents and data files deriving from field research and adopting 'mixed' (qualitative and quantitative) techniques.
