Abstract
The aim of this research has been the digital reconstruction of an unrealized project for a scientific villa designed by Francesco Borromini around 1644. We refer to the actual Villa Dorja Pamphilj, that was indeed built but following a totally different project made by Alessandro Algardi (1598-1654) and Francesco Grimaldi (1543-1613). The documents about this topic are conserved in the Vatican Library and in the National Archive of Rome. These sources are both graphical and written: the graphical are the blueprint by Francesco Borromini, a plan and a symmetrical façade in two solutions and a sketch attributed to Virgilio Spada that shows some variation compared to Borromini plan. The literary documents consist in Latin language munuscripts by the monk Emmanuel Maignan, where the author describes 21 scientific games conceived to decorate the villa and a letter written by Borromini and addressed to Cardinal Camillo Pamphilj. To realize the digital clone of the villa I followed the information given by graphics documents, respecting the real functioning of Emmanuel Maignan scientific games listed in his manuscripts.
