Dall’odio all’hate speech Conoscere l’odio e le sue trasformazioni per poi contrastarlo

“Poche persone riescono ad essere felici senza odiare qualche altra persona, nazione o credo”. Questa amara costatazione è attribuita a un filosofo anticonformista divenuto nel 1950 Premio Nobel per la letteratura, Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) e risulta essere valida oggi più che mai. Ma cosa ci sta succedendo? Perché l’odio ha trovato così tanto spazio nella società di oggi? E per dirla tutta: i demoni davvero albergano nell’animo di ciascuno di noi, come intuiva Dostoevskij? E se sì, il Male finirà per diventare il linguaggio corrente ed egemone? In questo breve paper proveremo ad analizzare l’odio, andando oltre le semplici definizioni, per poi provare a chiarire il ruolo, spesso fondamentale, che svolge nelle dinamiche della formazione dell' "unità" ideologica di un paese e cogliere le sue trasformazioni dopo la nascita e lo sviluppo del web e dei Social Network. È proprio nel web, spazio liquido regolato da velocità, incisività e interconnessione, che si ridefiniscono le relazioni sociali e l’odio riesce ad esprimere le sue maggiori potenzialità distruttive, nella creazione di ideologie basate sulla giustificazione dell’aggressività verso determinate categorie di persone con la finalità di raggiungere una condizione “umana” migliore e ideale. Dopo aver familiarizzato con l’odio e le sue diverse sfaccettature proveremo a fare un po’ di chiarezza sulle implicazioni giuridiche e culturali dell’hate speech online in riferimento al contesto europeo e italiano e agli strumenti in grado di prevenire e contrastare tale fenomeno. "Few people can be happy unless they hate some other person, nation, or creed." The bitter observation belongs to Bertrand Russell (1872-1970), the non-conformist philosopher and winner of the Nobel prize for literature in 1950, and more than ever before it has not ceased to be valid. But what is happening to us? Why there is so much space for hate in our current societies? To put it bluntly: are demons alive in the soul of each individual as Dostoevskij wrote? If the answer is yes, will Evil end up becoming the current language and widely dominant in the society? In this short working paper, we will try to analyze hate, going further than the mere definitions, in order to try to clarify the often fundamental role played in the dynamics of the creation of the “ideological” unit of a country and to be able to seize the changes and transformations after the birth and development of the Internet and Social Networks. It is within the internet, in the liquid space governed by speed, incisiveness and interconnection, that social relationships re-define and where hate succeeds in expressing its most destructive power by creating ideologies based on the justification of aggression towards certain categories of persons in order to achieve a better and ideal "human" condition. After becoming familiar with hate and all its facets there is a need for some form of clarification on the legal and cultural implications of online hate speech with regard to the European context and to the instruments that should be able to prevent and combat this phenomenon.
