Abstract
The theatre Amintore Galli in Rimini was bombarded during the Second World War II, on the 28th of December 1943, and during that tragic event the hall was destroyed, while the main façade, the entrance, the lobby and the foyer remained intact. The theatre, which is currently being reconstructed, represents a unique case study to analyze the possible issues arising during renovation projects, especially in relation to the decoration elements. The theatre of Rimini, an emblematic example among the public buildings of the Nineteenth Century (it was completed in 1857), will be analyzed concerning the realization of the decoration elements in light of the new technologies, of the innovative materials and in the respect of the regulations in force, in particular for the vault of the hall. All the technological, aesthetical and functional issues have been solved thanks to the interdisciplinary interaction of different professionals involved in the renovation project. The structure supporting the vault is realized with steel beams to which the wooden decorated parts of the dome are fixed. The beans of the dome are made of laminated spruce wood while the vault panels are realized with layered beech wood. In order to maintain the acoustic function of the plaster, the decorations have been realized with the Jesmonite, a special plaster well-know for its characteristics in terms of resistance, workability and aesthetic finish.
