The article analyzes the origins of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and its most recent developments. Some proposals for its solution are put forward, that are based on J. Galtung’s peace research model. These propos als are characterized by ‘exchange’ (Russia obtains Crimea, Ukraine maintains its sovereignty on Novorossiya but gives up the ambition to join NATO), ‘symmetric integration’ (a federalist transformation of Ukraine), and ‘single-nation separation’ (through a referendum, Crimea and part of Novorossiya separate from Ukraine). The main hurdle regarding the achievement of a conflict resolution is nonetheless the ‘politically correct’ di plomacy resorted to by Zelensky and Biden, which rejects both the real-politik approach of the Cold War era and the project for a liberal world order of the XX Century.
