In this paper, we propose a procedure to recover lost
slices in inter-coded H.264/AVC video frames. The procedure
recovers missing pixels by exploiting temporal information. In
particular, it considers 4 × 4 blocks and performs a full search
procedure on an adaptive size window in the reference frames, in
order to determine the best block according to a specified metric.
One key point of the proposed technique is the use of a modified
metric, that takes into account continuity at the block boundaries
as well as the smoothness of the motion field. Experimental results
show that the proposed scheme compares favorably with existing
state-of-the-art methods, both objectively and subjectively.
