Fin dal titolo le 'Res Gestae' di Ammiano Marcellino rivelano la spiccata tendenza della
memoria a dislocarsi su piani diversi, sull’asse del tempo e dello spazio. Essi interferiscono
problematicamente tra loro per via d’una serie di marcate opposizioni inerenti alla
personalità stessa dello storico e al suo modo vario, e variamente selettivo, di atteggiarsi
di fronte agli eventi narrati: 'auctor e actor, miles quondam et Graecus, Graecus ma Latina
lingua', voce individuale o invece collettiva, scrittore originalissimo eppure dedito a un
riuso letterario che talora rasenta la tecnica del centone. Already from the title Ammianus Marcellinus’ 'Res Gestae' reveal the distinct tendency of
memory to dislocate on different levels, on the axis of time and space. They interfere problematically
with each other because of a series of sharp oppositions inherent in the very
personality of the historian and in his way, varied and variously selective, to pose in front
of the narrated events: 'auctor and actor, miles quondam et Graecus, Graecus but Latina
lingua', individual or, instead, collective voice, very original writer but dedicated to a literary
reuse that sometimes borders on the technique of cento.
