I concetti di spazio e tempo non sono presenti nello stesso modo in tutta la produzione cartografica di tutte le epoche. In alcuni contesti storico-geografici, alla rappresentazione dello spazio come unità metrica lineare si preferivano altri criteri, come ad esempio i tempi di percorrenza. Analizzando numerosi casi di carte di diverse epoche, sarà possibile raffrontare alcuni metodi usati dai cartografi per rappresentare il mondo intorno a loro, nell'ottica dell'etno-cartografia. The ideas of time and space are not to be found in the whole cartographical production of all times. In Some historical and geographical contexts, space was not represented as a linear metric unit, since other topics, such as the time needed to reach a place, were considered more important. By analyzing different maps of different times, will compare some of the methods used by cartographers to represent the world they knew, in the light of ethno-cartography.
