Abstract
This paper aims to show that Longinus in his 'Prolegomena' to Hephaestion’s metrical 'Encheiridion' already uses isagogical categories, which later become characteristic for Prolegomena. In his introduction into metrics he not only follows the Alexandrian grammar theory, but even more deals with (middle-)platonic terms and concepts in a unique manner. So his Prolegomena must be seen as an extraordinary text showing the extreme close connection between philology and philosophy, which is well known for Longinus and other Middle Platonists.
