Lingue e scritture nell’Egeo pregreco

Il volume raccoglie i contributi di alcuni tra i maggiori specialisti italiani di quest’ambito di studi, che in Italia vanta una lunga tradizione. L’obiettivo dell’opera è duplice: da una parte, ricostruire il quadro complessivo dei rapporti che sono intercorsi fra i sistemi di scrittura attestati a Creta e a Cipro tra II e I millennio a.C.; dall’altra, verificare quali indicazioni possano essere desunte da questo genere di testimonianze per l’individuazione di almeno alcuni tratti tradizionalmente attribuiti al sostrato pregreco dell’Egeo orientale. Inoltre, l’analisi di dettaglio dedicata ad alcuni sistemi scrittori particolarmente interessanti e problematici, come il geroglifico cretese e la scrittura del disco di Festo, per quanto concentrata sulle scritture cretesi, rende più ricco e sotto certi aspetti più complesso il quadro generale. Tutto questo permette infine di gettare nuova luce sulla fase di passaggio fra scrittura semasiografica e l’emergere di un tipo di scrittura pienamente glottografico. The volume collects the contributions from some of the leading Italian specialists in this field of study, which has a long tradition in Italy. The aim of the work is twofold: on the one hand, to reconstruct the overall picture of the relationships that have existed between the writing systems attested in Crete and Cyprus between the second and first millennia B.C.; on the other, to verify what indications can be deduced from this kind of evidence for the identification of at least some features traditionally attributed to the Pre-Greek substratum of the Eastern Aegean. Moreover, the detailed analysis devoted to some particularly interesting and problematic writing systems, such as the Cretan Hieroglyphic and the writing of the Phaistos disc, although focused on the Cretan scripts, makes the overall picture richer and in some respects more complex. All of this finally allows us to shed new light on the transition phase between semasiographic writing and the emergence of a fully glottographic type of writing.
