The paper analyses the specific features of the new “Trial office”, with particular regard to the different tasks assigned to it within the various phases of the criminal trial, in relation to the dif-ferent types of judges presiding over them. This bring into focus the special significance of this new organizational structure is brought into focus, showing that its actual function appears to be only partially consistent with its original purpose.
