The concern of this contribution is to investigate intercultural interaction in an online communication setting, as competence in this field is not only a necessary skill for global PR-experts but, more generally speaking, will help in the handling of two important tendencies in the professional world, multidisciplinarity and multiculturality. The analysis will concentrate on the following issues:
– investigating the specific difficulties and the degree of awareness experienced by international team members of the Global Communication Project competition, related on the one hand to mostly written online communication patterns which hindered useful feedback, and on the other hand, to a lack of linguistic competence in EFL as well as cultural differences they were not aware of.
– formulating possible solutions.
In order to get an overview of both the students’ self-perception and their output in the specific working situation, as suggested by actual performance evaluation literature, quantitative and qualitative elements have been combined, by using a semi-structured questionnaire and the teacher’s annotations as an involved observer.
