The intent of this paper is to investigate more fully the textual significance and the structural importance of the vivid constellation of minor female characters and figures in Ulysses. From this analysis, key voices, such as Molly Bloom’s or Gerty MacDowell’s, are obviously excluded. The essay will also consider and explore the significance of the nexus between these minor female characters and food, since in Joyce’s novel female figures are regularly and incessantly combined with food.
