This paper investigates the so called “locative alternation” in Czech in the light of the the Construction Grammar Approach. The autor analyses two alterning constructions, tj. the “causative movement construction” and the “resultative” construction. She then singles out four classes of verbs, which allow the locative alternation in Czech. A particular attention is devoted to the role of verbal prefixes in allowing or disallowing the verbs to appear in both constructions, which form the locative alternation: while prefix na- is claimed to allow the verbs to appear in both constructions, the “causative movement construction” and the “resultative” one, the prefix po- is claimed to allow the verbs to appear just in the “resultative construction”.
