Trieste 1945. Una città ferita

In 1945 Pier Antonio Quarantotti Gambini was the director of Trieste Municipal Library and an already a well-known writer. He witnessed the forty days’ military occupation of Trieste by the army of marshal Tito and the following establishment of the Allied Military Government. The writer was intensely engaged with the writing of his journal of those day that could only be published in 1951. Some excerpts are presented and aim to show Trieste’s dramatic situation in that significant and crucial historical moment. Nel 1945 Pier Antonio Quarantotti Gambini è direttore della Biblioteca Civica di Trieste ed è già uno scrittore affermato. Vive come “testimone oculare” i giorni dell’occupazione militare dell’armata del maresciallo Tito, durata quaranta giorni, alla fine della quale a Trieste si insedierà il Governo Militare Alleato. Il diario di quei giorni impegnò moltissimo lo scrittore, che riuscì a pubblicarlo solo nel 1951. Se ne propongono alcuni stralci, tesi a evidenziare l’immagine della città in quel sofferto, drammatico e decisivo momento storico.
