Abstract
This chapter aims at showing how the Universal Declaration influenced the formulation, interpretation and application of the provisions contained in the main international conventions and in the human rights charters concerning freedom of opinion and expression. Notably, a focus on hate-speech will show how the Declaration laid the foundations to combat against the abusive or improper exercise of freedom of expression and how, today, the issue of hate-speech is regulated in the light of the binding international instruments inspired by the Declaration.
