The contribution illustrates first the friendship, which bound the humanist born in Capodistria, Pier Paolo Vergerio the Elder, to the canonist and cardinal Paduan Francesco Zabarella. It examines then Vergerio's and Zabarella's handwritings, with the aim to distinguish some documents which are certainly autograph, from others wrongly judged as such. The comparativen examination shows that some marginal notes contained in the ms. Marc. Lat. XII 23 (3946) must be attributed to the hand of Vergerio, not to the one of Zabarella (as argued in the past). The to date Anonymous translation of the Odyssey contained in the same ms. Marc. Lat. XII 23, which is (as already demosntrated by Agostino Pertusi) a remake of the older translation by Leonzio Pilato, it is argued here to be work by Vergerio himself.
