The paper explicates the basic tourist facilities and objective tourist predisposition of the Krapina-Zagorje county, as well as the level of traffic development in order to determine whether there are conditions needed for complementary relationship at all. Complementary is, namely, efficient only when both the tourist and traffic functions in a certain region are at a more advanced level of development, which has been stated as a fact in the concrete case. It should be pointed out that the study of the complementary level started from the premise that traffic is more in the function of the development of tourism than vice versa, which is only understandable since traffic presents an indispensable condition regarding tourism. Due to the relatively well distributed network, i.e. the density of roads and railway lines, a greater cooperation between these two transport methods has been initiated, which would intensify the integration of railway into the domestic tourist traffic, thus offering numerous contributions, out of which the ecological ones are of greatest importance for tourism and its sustainable development.
