Abstract
China is located at the intersection of the Pacific and the Eurasian seismic belts, and it has been affected by several serious earthquake disasters. The Chinese seismological community has been devoting significant efforts to earthquake forecast, which ranges from long-term to intermediate-term, short-term, and imminent term. In this framework, neo-deterministic seismic hazard analysis (NDSHA) contributes to long- and intermediate-term risk reduction strategies. NDSHA has been introduced to China since 1998, and the main regions of its application are North China and Southwest China, respectively. Complementarily, the application of NDSHA facilitated to a large extent the bilateral and multilateral scientific exchange and cooperation between China and European countries, in particular Italy and Russia.
