The English version, edited by Norma Schifano, is not simply a translation of the original textbook (“Il latino. Breve introduzione linguistica”, Milano 2007), but rather a more extensive and accurate edition which combines the analysis of Latin with a more detailed comparative view on English. This textbook provides a detailed introduction to the study of Latin from the perspective of contemporary linguistics. It adopts some basic tenets of generative grammar in an in-depth analysis of the main phonological, morphological, and syntactic properties of Latin, and offers a step-by-step guide to the universal principles and the specific parameters which shape Latin, with a comparative view on English and other modern languages.
