Freedom of movement and the actual capability of moving from one place to another – freely and autonomously – undoubtedly represent one of the fundamental needs of people. Pro-gressive ageing and the subsequent loss of the psychophysical requirements for driving – as well as some forms of disability – may well hinder such freedom, with dire consequences for the affected people's quality of life. Technology applied to self-driving cars of 5th level is poised to become a paramount way to overcome such barriers, ensuring complete freedom of movement to all.
