Nel suo epicedio per Tibullo Ovidio impiega numerose formule del suo predecessore
per esprimere, in un’applicazione ingegnosa e magistrale di intertestualità, la aspra
rivalità fra le due ‘vedove’, Delia e Nemesi, corrispondenti ai due libri del poeta. Così
facendo supera il suo modello inventando numerose altre opposizioni. Il primo distico
su Aurora e Tetide che compiangono
i loro figli morti, Memnone ed Achille, distico
qualche volta mal interpretato, evoca, con la sua simmetria suggestiva e ben equilibrata,
la Psicostasia eschilea nel suo trasferimento alla σύγκρισις letteraria sin dalle Rane di
Aristofane. The poet Ovidius employs in his funeral elegy on Tibullus many formulae of his predecessor
in order to express, in an ingenious and masterly application of intertestuality,
the rigorous rivalry between the two ‘widows’, Delia and Nemesis, who correspond to
the two books of the poet. Doing so he surpasses his model by inventing many other oppositions.
The first distich on Aurora e Thetis who lament for their killed sons, Memnon
and Achilles, sometimes misinterpretated,
recalls, with its suggestive equilibrium, the Psychostasia by Aeschylus in its application to the literary σύγκρισις since the Frogs by
Aristophanes.
